Durban - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in KwaZulu-Natal announced on Thursday that some beneficiaries were unable to access funds using their bank cards due to system glitches by their respective banks.

Sassa KZN spokesperson Sandy Godlwana said the issue was brought to the attention of the department on Thursday.

“Sassa assures social grants beneficiaries that Sassa transferred funds to respective bank accounts of beneficiaries,” she said.

The department made a plea for patience while the system challenges are addressed.

“Sassa has been assured by affected institutions that their technicians are working around the clock to have this matter resolved expeditiously,” said Godlwana.

A beneficiary commenting on a Sassa news group on Facebook asked what was going on with social grant payments for children. She said this was the first time this has happened with her bank.

Commenting on this post, another beneficiary said she called her bank and was advised that they are investigating the issue and would soon rectify the problem.

Another beneficiary said she called her bank and they said: “They have technical issues but by the end of today it should be fine.”
