Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a former Chatsworth principal and the attempted murder of her husband.

A 24-year-old man, believed to be a trainee estate agent, was arrested on Thursday. 

On Wednesday, Gona Pillay, 63, was stabbed to death in her Silverglen home. Her husband survived the stabbing by four people who pretended to came to view their home which was for sale. 

The couple’s Mercedes Benz was recovered in uMbumbulu, south of Durban, as well as the weapon believed to have been used in the stabbings. 

On Saturday night, a second suspect was arrested. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested in the same area. Police said he  will appear in court once charged. 

His trainee-estate agent accomplice will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrates on Monday. He is facing charges of house robbery, murder and attempted murder.  

Gona was laid to rest on Sunday. Her husband is still in a critical condition in hospital.
