The action of private security companies and the police has led to the arrest of two alleged hijackers.

Marshall Security said in a statement that at 11.40am on Monday, they had been alerted to a hijacking which had occurred in the Empangeni area in northern Kwazulu-Natal.

“The vehicle in question, a white Mercedes Benz E-Class, was fitted with a tracking device and a signal indicated that the vehicle was travelling on the N2’s southbound carriage way."

The company said: “Members of the Marshall Security Special Operations Team, Z2 Security, HAWKS Security and the SAPS positioned themselves on the N2 at the Tongaat Toll plaza.  Members of the SAPS Umhlali K9 unit picked up visuals of the vehicle and began following it from the Umhlali area."

"When the vehicle entered the toll gate it was brought to a stop and two suspects – a male and female – were arrested.”

They said the vehicle and suspects had been taken into custody so that further investigation and processing could take place.
