Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs(Edtea) Siboniso Duma has committed to working with stakeholders as part of efforts aimed at rebuilding the economy.

In a statement on Saturday Duma said since the swearing-in of the new provincial executive council, the department has been inundated with calls from big business, communities and leaders of society and will be planning engagements with all stakeholders.

“We are inspired by the fact that all stakeholders want to join hands with us to turn around the situation,” Duma said, ahead of his visit to the Twelve Apostles Church, in Ezingolweni on the South Coast Region on Sunday.

Duma noted that poverty was the biggest challenge.

“Despite the large resource base in our continent in terms of good soil, rainfall, mineral resources and many other natural features – our continent remains poor. This has to be changed. And KwaZulu-Natal as a gateway to Africa and the world, we must engineer that change,” he said.
