Netcare 911, the Fire Department, other ambulances services, the NSRI, security companies and the air force’s 15 Squadron took part in an EMS Awareness Day event in Durban North on Saturday..

Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman said the Netcare Education Faculty of Emergency and Critical Care (FECC) - a training institute for paramedics - provided training dolls for CPR demonstrations and included some of the students currently training.

Operational crews were involved in several rescue demonstrations during the well attended event at the Crusaders sports ground, including motor vehicle rescue and a helicopter hoisting scenario using the air force’s Oryx helicopter.

Dollman said the Fire department assisted in the vehicle extrication demonstrations, where the public could watch the “Jaws of Life” in use as rescuers cut open a car to free the injured “patients” trapped inside.

They were also involved with a fire simulation and demonstration of aerial fire fighting appliances.

There were also demonstrations from law enforcement, security companies and the SAPS on anti-hijacking and cash in transit attacks.
