Two women, who were raped in Westville this month, are thought to be the latest victims of a suspected serial rapist in the area.

Police spokespeople were not able to comment on Monday but a source close to investigations confirmed that an incident had been reported on Friday and Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) posted on Facebook that it had been called on to help.

According to The Mercury’s source, another woman was assaulted in the same spot less than a week earlier and these two cases bring the total number being investigated as the work of this one suspect, to at least 13 since last September.

In July, The Mercury first reported that the man was on the police’s radar and that his modus operandi seemed to involve using the promise of jobs to lure desperate women away to the secluded spot.

Apparently, he takes them on taxis to meet with “prospective employers” and gets off with them on the M19 highway, between the Dunkeld Road and Blair Atholl Road bridges.

He takes them along one of the footpaths and then rapes them and/or forces them to perform oral sex on him.

Police say the man has a scar on his face and that he is missing a tooth.

Apparently, he is in his thirties, of an average height and build and has tattoos on his torso and arms.
