Durban - A man died as a result of electrocution after he broke into the Ilembe Sewer Works in KwaDukuza recently.

The municipality’s Technical Services senior manager, Cingisa Mbola, said the man had gained entry illegally to the sewer works located near the entrance to the town of KwaDukuza.

Mbola said investigations showed that the person had been tampering with electrical components at the time.

IPSS Medical Rescue attended to the scene.

IPSS spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said when paramedics arrived they found that the man had been electrocuted.

“Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done for the man and he was declared deceased on the scene by IPSS Medical Rescue,” said Meyrick.

In a separate incident, The Mercury reported that a man sustained burns to his upper body after he came into contact with a live electrical wire in Salt Rock on the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphin Coast

According to paramedics, the man required advanced life support intervention before being transported to hospital.

Earlier this year IOL reported that a 38-year-old municipal worker accidentally struck an electrical wire and died after he was electrocuted while cutting grass on the side of the road.

Meanwhile last year, The Mercury’s sister publication Post reported that a Phoenix father of six died after he was electrocuted while fixing a light fitting in his home.
