Durban - A woman tavern owner was robbed by four thieves who were posing as customers in Cornubia, north of Durban on Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the tavern owner alleged that the robbery occurred on Monday at 11.30am.
Gwala said the owner was at her business premises when four suspects posing as customers tied her up and demanded money.
“The suspects took liquor and cash before fleeing,” she said.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the owner alerted Rusa to the robbery.
He said reaction officers were dispatched to the premises and on arrival met with the victims, who reported that the suspects had entered the tavern under the pretence of purchasing alcohol before producing firearms.
“Two patrons were cable tied and the owner was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. The robbers also loaded alcohol into a bag before fleeing on foot,” said Balram.
Balram added that Rusa officers and members of the Verulam SAPS had conducted an extensive search for the suspects. However, no arrests were made.
Police said a case of business robbery was reported at Verulam SAPS and the matter is under investigation.
