Durban - A security company says a teenage boy recounted to them how four men attacked him and his father on Rambo Road in the Amaotana area of Trenance Park west of Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said Verulam SAPS were investigating a case of murder.

Gwala said it was alleged that on Saturday just after 7pm, a 44-year-old man was walking with his son on Rambo Road in Amaotana when they were attacked by four armed men.

“The victim was shot and was declared dead at the scene,” she said.

She said the suspects fled the scene in their getaway vehicle.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram said members were called out to Rambo Road at approximately 8pm by a member of the public who reported the shooting.

He said reaction officers and Rusa medics were immediately dispatched and on arrival found the Verulam SAPS in attendance.

“Medics examined the victim and found that he was fatally injured. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his back, chest and leg,” he said.

Balram said the man’s son, who was believed to be between the ages 15 to 17, informed Rusa members that four suspects opened fire on him and his dad without warning.

“He managed to flee however his father was gunned down. The deceased’s personal firearm was stolen by the suspects who fled on foot in an unknown direction,” he said.

He added that several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Police said the matter was under investigation.
