The three people charged with kidnapping and murdering Clairwood boys Luyanda Msomi and Njabulo Mankayi, will spend the festive season behind bars.

Amahle Maliwa, 28, Liziwe Ngwayishe 33, and Ali Yusaf, 46, appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

Maliwa had previously said she wanted to get her own private attorney.

But on Monday, she told the court she had lost his number and wanted Legal Aid to represent her instead.

And after taking instructions, Anele Mveku, who is now acting for all three, said her clients were abandoning bail.

The case was adjourned until early next year for further investigations.

Members of the Clairwood community again filled the gallery on Monday.

Many brought their children along to court.

They cheered when the accused were led away.

Luyanda and Njabulo disappeared earlier this month after they were seen boarding a bus, on their way home from school.

Two days later, officers from SAPS Search and Rescue unit recovered Luyanda’s bruised and battered body from dense bush, in Montclair.

And two days after that, they pulled Njabulo’s body from Durban harbour.

It is understood that Maliwa was having an affair with Njabulo’s father and that the two recently split up.

Yusaf, a Malawian national, is believed to be a traditional healer.

They and Ngwayishe all face charges of murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
