Twenty children stung by bees

Twenty children were injured on Monday afternoon when they were stung by numerous bees at a school in eManzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement that paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 3.11pm and were lead into the school hall to the awaiting children.

“Upon assessment, paramedics found that twenty children, aged between two and six, had sustained bee stings.”

He said: "Paramedics then assessed the children and assisted by removing the stings. 

“Fortunately, none of the children require transportation to a hospital. The children were left in the care of the teachers."

In Pretoria

an 11-year-old boy was found in a serious but stable condition after a swarm of bees attacked him, paramedics said.

At the time, Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said the boy – who was allergic to bee stings – was stung several times and required medical intervention.
