Two dead and 9 injured in KZN accidents

Two people died tragically and at least nine others were injured in accidents across KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

DURBAN - Two people died and at least nine others were injured in accidents across KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

Today, a motorist was killed and several others were injured in a collision involving multiple vehicles on the M7 westbound near the N3 this afternoon.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, said Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene just before 1pm to find a man entrapped in the wreckage of his vehicle.

“He was found to have suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

In the early hours of yesterday morning Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the M13 near the Hillcrest off-ramp.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said reports indicated that the driver of a light motor vehicle allegedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it rolling several times before leaving the road and crashing into a tree.

“Medics assessed the scene and found that the passenger, an adult male, had sustained fatal injuries. The driver had sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene by medics before being transported by ambulance to hospital for further care,” he said.

Around the same time on Saturday morning in Pietermaritzburg, at 4: 30am, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on Chief Albert Luthuli Street.

“Reports indicate that three people were injured in a roll-over. Medics assessed the patients who were found to have sustained minor injuries. Once treated all the patients were transported by ambulance to hospital.”

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha, said that on Friday night, paramedics responded to reports of a collision on the R620 in Ramsgate.

“When emergency services arrived they found that a vehicle had overturned. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that three patients sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Botha said the patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

That evening, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to a crash at the intersection of the R102 and R620.

“When emergency services arrived they found that two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision. Paramedics found that two patients had sustained serious injuries.The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment,” said Botha.
