DURBAN - THE KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after thousands of bees were killed and some beehives stolen in New Hanover, near Greytown.
KZN police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case was opened for investigation at the New Hanover police station.
“It is alleged that on May 22 at 8am, a roller door was damaged at a church on York Farm. Again on May 23, at 07.25am, a beehive was damaged at the church,” said Gwala.
Commercial bee-keeper Craig Campbell took a video showing the aftermath of the incident and shared it on social media.
In the video, Campbell speaks about how devastated he was looking at the damage that had been done.
“I’m so sick and tired from such treatment in the industry, where not even the police are interested in doing anything. What is wrong with these people? What is wrong with this country?” he asked, walking among the damaged and destroyed beehives.
