Durban - Dr Makhozi Khoza has officially launched her Zulu Conversational Grammar Bible that breaks down the intricacy and science behind the isiZulu language.

Speaking during her launch in Durban on Thursday, Khoza said learning the language was as easy as learning the vowels; a, e, i, o, u.

"When learning isiZulu, you have to know which noun cluster the isiZulu word belongs to because all nouns are arranged into 12 clusters, which is called the Uzalo Noun Cluster or UZL NC system. Each noun cluster has a vowel or single consonant-led sound unit or syllable that can be attached in the prefixed position of the noun word," she said.

Khoza said it was time that black, African children were taught the basics of their mother tongue and were proud of it.

She said through her background research, which took place over the last decade, she found that isiZulu was very similar to mathematics as both followed a series of formulas.

"We are also introducing a new way of learning isiZulu that will enhance one's mathametical and analytical abilities. It helps with understanding methods because there are many ways to say one thing in isiZulu," she said.

Khoza said the book has been recognised by the Department of Education and she is embarking on a country-wide publicity tour to promote the books.

She added that there is also an application that can assist those wanting to brush up on their isiZulu or learn the language. At the moment, users can access it via www.thetalkzulu.co.za where they can create an account and find a fun and unique way of learning isiZulu.
