DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport said a team was working hard to repair a sinkhole on the M13 King Cetshwayo Highway eastbound near Westville and that it was hoping to reopen it next week.

This comes after the department announced on Friday that the M13 was temporarily closed near Westville, eastbound, due to a sinkhole.

The provincial Transport Department said an engineering team was on site assessing the extent of the damage.

“Traffic is being diverted on to the Blair Athol exit and back to the M13 on the on-ramp. A team is on site investigating the extent and cause of the sinkhole,” it said.

In an update on Sunday, the department said the team was working on the M13 eastbound, fixing the sinkhole.

“The team worked throughout the weekend to find a temporary solution to this problem, and is working around the clock to have this strategic road open early next week,” said the department.

The M13 is the main road to Durban for residents living in Westville, Pinetown, Kloof, Gillitts and Hillcrest.
