Durban - Everyone who has ever been in the presence of Joan Paleman can attest that she is the coolest gogo they know and the life of every party.

Now Paleman will have her infectious personality rub off on Mzansi as she shows the rest of the country why she is the coolest OG on the SABC’s The Coolest OG Season 2.

The Coolest OG is a show that has 10 super cool OGs compete for a R100 000 grand prize by going through a series of fun and exciting challenges, with the help of their grandchildren, to see who will win the title of The Coolest OG.

OG is a slang term that describes someone or something that is an original or originator.

The 65-year-old mother of four and grandmother to six was born in Wentworth, south of Durban, and was the ninth child out of 13 kids and has a twin sister, Jean.

Paleman says she ended up entering to be a part of the show after her daughters saw a funny Facebook post of hers.

“I auditioned, man what a journey this was, the stress, the nerves, the comebacks, the fighting but we did it – my niece Shaunee and I did it,” she said adding that the whole journey was a roller coaster ride.

Out of the 15 contestants it was narrowed to 10 and Paleman got an opportunity to be on a plane for the first time.

Paleman describes herself as a people’s person who loves her life and enjoys great conversation.

“I’m fun, I can turn any dull moment into a ray of sunshine, and please don’t forget my dress code ‘I may be old but certainly not cold’,“ she said.

Paleman, a gender-based violence survivor says she is passionate about motivating women to stand up for themselves.

“I volunteer and speak as much as I can to women with low self-esteem who also drive the mentality that drove me for years.”
