DURBAN - Yesterday was my fourth visit to the Home Affairs office in Umgeni Road. I was there at 5.40am. I am trying to collect my passport and my new ID.

Although I was very near the front of the queue, and even got inside the building, there was simply no luck. No load shedding this time, but off line again. I eventually left at 11am.

Today I will try again. Is there no one with any authority who can actually do something?

Hundreds of us wait and wait and wait. And then we go home, only to return the next day.

Another issue is the toilets that are meant for these hundreds. These are way beyond shocking.

I challenge one of your reporters to pay Home Affairs a visit and get there by 6.30am.

Then you can see how little is being done to serve the people of Durban.
