Singapore - A Singapore woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a five-year-old girl, hit by a falling flower pot on April 30, media reports said on Wednesday.
The 59-year-old woman was nabbed for causing Cheryl Goh's death by a "rash or negligent act".
She was released on bail of 5 000 Singapore dollars (about R21 000)
The youngster's death sparked public outrage against "killer-litter" offenders and those who place flower pots and dangerous objects on ledges outside their flats.
Since Cheryl's death, a spate of other incidents throughout the city-state has put the problem in the national spotlight.
If convicted, the woman faces a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both. She could also lose her Housing Board apartment if she is the owner.
A task force set up to study the ongoing problem has called for a nationally-standardised law.
Although the home affairs and environment ministries have legislation targetting offenders, the task force noted there were discrepancies and no co-ordinated effort. - Sapa-DPA
