Denise Gordon was the lucky winner of The Star’s 125th birthday giveaway, and the Rivonia resident is now the proud owner of a new Kia Picanto 1.2 EX worth R125 000.

Denise says she SMSd exactly 21 entries through to us, and is still in disbelief that she won the competition and has a new Kia in her driveway.

Her good fortune couldn’t have struck at a better time, as she says her current transport is an ailing 20-year old car.

She also says that her 18-year old daughter has just become a driver and that the extra wheels in the household will come in very handy. We wish Denise and her daughter happy motoring for years to come.

The competition was held in celebration of The Star’s 125th birthday, and the prize was sponsored by Kia Motors South Africa.

The new-generation Picanto has received rave reviews since its launch in South Africa in July last year.

The funky little hatch has stirred up the budget-car category with its sassy styling, fuel economy, impressive build quality, and value for money – attributes which saw it scoop the runner-up prize in the 2011 South African Car of the Year competition.

In standard trim the Picanto’s well stocked with comfort and convenience features, with a trip computer, a sound system with MP3 and (USB port and aux in) iPod compatibility, keyless entry, remote central locking and one driver airbag all included as standard equipment.

The top-of-the-range EX model won by Denise also comes with additional features such as 15” alloys, Bluetooth connectivity, ABS brakes, an extra airbag, chrome door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and electric mirrors.

The Picanto EX is powered by an eager yet economical 1.2-litre engine offering 65kW and 120Nm, with a 5-speed manual gearbox. -Star Motoring
