Cancer.vive riders have attitude

It's a celebration of life, say these riders to whom life itself is especially precious.

It's also a mission, to create awareness among South Africans in every town and city across the country about the realities of cancer.

And it's a single attitudinous digit rudely shoved in the fickle face of fate - because every one of the riders in the group photo at the top of this story is a cancer survivor.

They'll be riding from Johannesburg to Cape Town on 16 bikes provided by Triumph South Africa, from September 16-24, stopping off in cities, towns and rural communities along the way to spread the message that, if you catch it early, you can survive cancer.

That's why they've called it the Cancer.vive Ride, and it's a personal victory for each of these riders, some of whom are still battling the side-effects of chemo and radiation therapy - but that's not going to stop them.

Triumph SA brand manager Arnold Olivier said: “Riding across the country on motorcycles seems like a very good way of raising cancer awareness - although, as bikers, we may be biased!

“For us it seems like a great opportunity to promote motorcycling while at the same time supporting a really special cause.”
