Phillip Island, Melbourne - Can you believe that it was way back in 1985 that Suzuki released the GSX-R750 as its "ultimate" supersport bike because it pushed out 75kW and weighed only 172kg?

Or that it's 11 years since Suzuki released the GSX-R600 that tipped the scales at 162kg yet developed 83kW?

Now there's Suzuki's newest "ultimate" sportbike, the GSX-R1000 K7 launched this week here in Australia.

Superbike SA correspondent and former racer GEORGE PORTMAN and his son, SA National Superbike racer ROBERT, were there for the event.

George's first-hand reports (see links below) below tell of a monster of a bike with a dry weight of 172kg and three electronic modes to handle its 135kW according to how the rider might feel on the day.

It's three bikes in one, says George. "It amazes me how far technology has come in 22 years."
