Clayton Enslin (KTM) and Dirkie Baard (Honda) have won the motorcycle and quad categories respectively of the Koue Bokkeveld 400, final round of the 2009 SA Off-Road championship, at the weekend in the Western Cape.
Enslin, who also won the Open Class, beat team mate Gavin Louw (Kawasaki) by only eight seconds after more than six hours in the saddle.
Jade Gutzeit (BMW) started from pole but finished third overall and in class after experiencing brake problems. He did, however, secure the 2009 Open Class championship.
Gutzeit lost the battle for the No.1 plate to 250cc Class champion Riaan van Niekerk (KTM), for whom fifth overall was enough to clinch a second consecutive title.
Bollie van Rooyen (Kawasaki) had a trouble-free race to finish fourth, only 11sec behind Gutzeit. Newly crowned SA Enduro champion Altus de Wet (KTM) was sixth - four seconds behind Van Niekerk after 350km in the mountainous Koue Bokkeveld.
Louwrens Mahoney did his KTM sponsors proud for the last time before moving to another brand, finishing eighth after experiencing shock-absorber problems.
Yamaha rider Laurence Murton, who lost time getting stuck in mud, and Jonathan van Wyk (200cc Class winner) finished seventh and ninth respectively with Jonathan Webster (Yamaha) rounding off the top 10.
Cape youngster Bjorn Conacher (TM) won the 125cc class while a second Senior Class win for Brian Bader (Kawasaki) - ahead of Wayne Farmer (Gas Gas) - moved him up to runner-up in this class behind Farmer, who had already bagged the title for a second consecutive season.
Henk Leenstra (KTM) finished third in the Master Class behind Gas Gas rider Tim Jordan and Mark Schutte (KTM) - and finished the season half a point ahead of Schutte.
Attie Hofmeyr (Yamaha) was the first Silver Challenge rider home.
QUADS
Namibian Baard, who started from pole, rode a trouble-free race to take the overall and Pro 450 Class titles, becoming the first foreign rider to win the SA Quad title.
Defending quad champion Brian Baragwanath (Yamaha) came in second in both the race and the championship after losing time with four flat tyres in the rocky terrain. André du Plessis (Suzuki) was third overall and in the Pro 450 Class.
Baard's team mate Juan Coetzee confirmed his No.2 plate for 2010 by coming home fourth overall with local rider Jacques de Bruyn (Suzuki) winning the Open Class and finishing fifth overall.
De Bruyn just beat Jacques "Boesman" Struwig (Suzuki), who was last away of 31 starters after failing to finish Friday's qualifying time trial. Struwig also finished second in the Open Class.
Yamaha riders Keegan da Silva and Vincent Loubser (who lost three places just before the finish due to a broken ball-joint) finished seventh and eighth overall respectively with two local Senior Class rider, Colin Joubert (Suzuki) and Johan van Lill (Laeger) rounding off the top 10.
Third in the Senior Class gave Paul Chomse (Yamaha Banshee) the 2009 title while Jurie Meyer (Yamaha) won the Master Class, although fifth in class was enough to clinch the 2009 title for similarly mounted Colin Britt.
