Triple Black - the name of this new special model of the BMW R1200 GS says it all. By offering its bestselling motorcycle in a new, almost all-black colour scheme BMW will be making the stated wishes of many customers come true.

The GS wears its engineering on the outside, emphasised on this model by the gloss black of the tank and front mudguard, the plain black engine and front suspension and the dark metallic grey of the swing arm, rear frame and cylinder head covers.

This special model also has cross-spoked wheels with glossy black rims - optional on the R1200 GS and standard on the R1200 GS Adventure - and the special look is completed by a new black seat with bold GS logos moulded on the sides.

Production of the limited-edition R1200 GS Triple Black will start in November and the first South African deliveries are expected early in the new year. Pricing will be announced when they arrive.

DOHC BOXER POWER

The 2010 BMW R1200 GS and its sister model, the R1200 GS Adventure have been upgraded with a new DOHC boxer engine, derived from the fire-breathing HP2 Sport.

For this application it's been retuned to deliver a quoted 81kW at 7750 and 120Nm at 6000rpm for a wide torque spread and long touring legs.

Antilock braking is standard and and a new version of BMW's electronic suspension adjustment system, revised for use with long-travel "enduro touring" suspension, is an extra-cost option, allowing the rider to adjust the suspension at the press of a button to suit load and road conditions.arrive
