The Ariel Atom, a purist track day delight that weighs just 469kg, is already one of the quickest street cars in the world, but its credentials didn't quite cut it in the eyes of German tuners Wimmer.

The tuning company has taken the standard Atom 3300, which is powered by a two-litre, four-cylinder 224kW engine, and given it a serious tinkering. The result is a car that churns out 254kW and 282Nm and sprints from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds - even reaching 200km/h in just 7.1 seconds - less time than it takes the average hot hatch to get to 100!

The power increase comes as a result of optimised engine software, compressor overhaul, fuel pump conversion and sport exhaust system from Rennkat. Optimising the exhaust back pressure also results in a wonderful sound, according to Wimmer.

A purist car to the extreme, the Atom has no doors and nothing in the way of luxury. It's equipped with unique internal shock absorbers and the suspension is operated via push-rods - the damper struts being at the top. The tube frame replaces the body, providing the ultimate in rigidity.
