Audi Sport Quattro concept in action

If nothing else, this official video of the Audi Sport Quattro concept that was first shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany last month proves that the slinky showcar is, in fact, a runner.

And what a runner - this new-millenium interpretation of the original 1984 Sport Quattro celebrated in a thousands of rallying action shots (usually with all four wheels in the air!) has a four-litre biturbo V8 driving all four wheels (of course) via a special eight-speed tipronic 'box, with a 'platter' electric motor sandwiched in between to give it a total of 515kW and 800Nm.

GETTING ITS OWN BACK

That's good for 0-100 in 3.7 seconds and 305km/h flat out, while a 14kW/h lithium-ion battery gives it a range of up to 50km in 'stealth' mode.

Audi hasn't said anything about a production version yet, but why go to the expense of building a running prototype if you're not planning to get some of it back from paying customers?

As soon as we hear more, so will you.
