With the hype around the all-new 3 Series sedan only settling now, BMW has taken the wraps off the wagon version which, unfortunately, is not headed to South Africa at this stage.
As you'd imagine, the 3 Series Touring offers more luggage space than the four-door but not much more, mind you, with the seats-up volume increasing from 480 to 495 litres. The wagon also has a standard 40:20:40 folding rear bench, as well as a separate partition net, automatic tailgate and separate rear window opening.
There's also more space for passengers, with BMW having increased the car's overall length by 97mm and the wheelbase by 50mm.
Just like the sedan, the Touring can be customised to the hilt (with Modern Line, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport package being available, and there's a small range of modern turbocharged engines available.
Only one of these is a petrol, the 180kW 2-litre turbo 328i, while the two diesel options include the 135kW 2-litre 320d and 190kW six-cylinder 330d. Four-cylinder models come with six-speed manual transmission and can be ordered with BMW's eight-speed auto, which is standard in the 330d.
Technological wizardry abounds, with available features including latest generation full colour head-up display and a host of BMW connected apps with internet connectivity.
