Detroit, Michigan - Chevrolet is inviting enthusiasts to name a special-edition Camaro SS that will make its public debut at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association show in Las Vegas. The new model will arrive at dealers in the first quarter of 2015, wearing special emerald-green metallic paint and exclusive exterior trim elements.

Chevrolet will announce the winning name in November, when the car is revealed at SEMA, the world's largest trade show of automotive personalisation and performance.

Camaro marketing manager Todd Christensen said: "We've made a tradition of offering special-edition models each spring, but this is the first time we've turned to the community of Camaro fans to name one.”

The special-edition Camaro SS will be offered in coupé and convertible models with a special trim package that includes high-intensity discharge headlights, LED tail-lights, a special grille, body-colour roof mouldings and antenna, a body-colour SS bonnet extractor (the standard finish is black), a body-colour accessory ground-effects package and ZL1 rear spoiler, and grey rally stripes.

Domestic-market models will roll on chromed 21" rims, export versions will have polished 20" alloys.

All the cars will have black interior trim with graphite silver door and instrument-panel inserts; the roof fabric on convertibles will be black.

Optional extra kit includes a sunroof (don't ask for one on a convertible) dual-mode exhaust system (only for the domestic market) satnav radio and a short-throw shifter.

Motorvation will be provided by the standard Camaro SS-issue 6.2-litre V8, rated at 318kW and 569Nm in models with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, and 298kW and 556Nm for cars with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.
