Pico = small, and they're not kidding

Daihatsu, acknowledged masters of the minicar, have come up with this strange battery-powered shopping trolley for the Tokyo motor show, on now - yet another example of an EV that can't make up its mind whether it's a scooter or a milk float.

The Pico EV concept is just 2.4m long, a metre wide and 1.5m tall (that's way smaller than a Smart car!) weighs 400kg and seats two in tandem like a motorcycle - once they've climbed aboard by raising one for the safety bars, which rotate like a scissor door.

Daihatsu quotes a top speed of 50km/h and a range of 50km (but not, we assume, at the same time) and, once you've done that, it can be recharged in only two hours from a domestic 220V supply.

It also has LED panels at both ends and on the safety bars, whichg can display warning massages to pedestrians and other drivers.

Or advertising, once this silly little vehicle takes up its proper position in the automotive hierarchy of the world - pizza delivery.
