Pretoria - The 2015 Ford Mustang, the first pony car to be officially released outside North America, will be the star of the show at Ford's inaugural Go Further promotion in Sandton on 17 July.

And that's where the announcement will be made that South African Ford Dealerships will officially open their order books for this iconic muscle-car in January 2015, almost a year before its official SA launch at the end of 2015.

The new fastback and convertible models are the most advanced Mustangs to date, while embracing the brand's half-century of heritage and status. Notably, it's the first Mustang with independent rear suspension, and SA-spec models will have all the gizmotronics customers have cone to expect from performance cars, including Sync 2 and blind spot information system with cross traffic alert.

"Few cars inspire passion like the Mustang.”

Ford SA marketing vice-president Mark Kaufman said: “Its iconic design and visceral sound resonate even with people who've never driven one."

More than nine million Mustangs have been sold since it was first launched in 1964, and Mustangs have made hundreds of appearances in film, television, music and video games, achieving such star status as Eleanor in the cult film 'Gone in 60 Seconds' that few people remember the female lead was actually Angelina Jolie!

UNMISTAKEABLE PROFILE

The clean-sheet design of both fastback and convertible retains the signature long sculpted bonnet, short rear deck and shark-bike front treatment; it's classically low and wide with a low roof and steeply sloping glassware.

"You only get one chance to make a first impression," quoted Kaufman, "and when you see this car, you immediately see a Mustang."

The budget suspension of 1964 has given way to a new perimeter front sub-frame and double ball-joint front MacPherson struts, while integral-link independent suspension with aluminium rear knuckles, and torque vectoring modulates rear-wheel travel - and manual-transmission models even cone standard with launch control.

Prices and details of the models that will be available in South Africa will be confirmed at a later date.
