Honda concept brings back the Beat

Honda's new S660 Concept, set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show on 20 November, hints at a spiritual successor to the compact Beat roadster of 1991.

Although Honda has released virtually nothing in the way of detail, the little open-top appears to fit the Japanese Kei car dimensions.

Not only does its size make this evident, but the name hints that it'll have a 660cc engine, which is the largest Kei car displacement permitted by law.

Reports suggest that the little engine will be turbocharged and while there's a good chance that it'll only be offered in Japan, word on the street is that Honda is considering a 1-litre turbo version for other global markets, particularly Europe.

The production S660 will go head-to-head with the spiritual successor to the Copen, which Daihatsu is currently working on.

Yet hopefully Honda is not just thinking 'small' with its future roadster plan - yes, Honda, we really want an S2000 revival too…
