Isuzu expands reach of new KB range

One thing that puzzled us about the new Isuzu KB is that in most cases it's quite a bit more expensive than its rivals.

And while GMSA hasn't gone ahead and dropped prices across the board, the company has added five new models (two at the bottom and three near the top) that boost affordability at the cost of spec.

Good news for those looking for a durable and non-stressed oil burner is that Isuzu has resurrected the 2.5-litre low-pressure turbodiesel engine from the previous range.

Sure, it's not going to go anywhere in a hurry - with outputs of 58kW at 3800rpm and 170Nm at 1800rpm - but it should outlast any impending apocalypse and, according to GMSA, return just 7.8 l/100km on the combined cycle.

This new KB 250 option is also over 30-grand more affordable than the 85kW D-TEQ model, with the new 'base' model costing R197 200 and the 'Fleetside' going for R214 100.

Moving up to the top of the range, the LX double cab models can now be fitted with cloth seats rather than leather, which brings the price down by R9500.

This means you'll now be paying R400 900 for the KB 300 D-TEQ 4x2, R413 900 for the automatic model and R454 900 for the 4x4 LX.

All models in the range are sold with a five-year/90 000km service plan and 3-year/120 000km warranty.
