Jaguar's high-velocity XJR limo is making a comeback.

Going head-to-head with the 400kW Mercedes S63 AMG, the XJR borrows its 405kW 5-litre supercharged V8 heart from the Jaguar XFR-S.

The XJR is billed as the most focused, agile and responsive XJ ever made and besides the more powerful motor, it gains a sportier chassis set-up, bespoke exterior styling package and a number of aerodynamic gains.

The big performer will make its global debut at the New York Motor Show next week, when Jaguar will also release more detail on the car.

For now, we'll have to rely on the promises made by Jaguar's global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, who says the new XJR “epitomises the three pillars of technology, performance and contemporary design which the Jaguar brand stands for in the twenty-first century, while delivering new levels of dynamic ability in a luxury saloon.”
