Johannesburg - Kia South Africa is conducting a voluntary recall of around 800 Soul crossovers.

The recall affects the steering racks of vehicles that were built in South Korea between 18 January 2014 and 30 September 2015.

So what's the problem?

In some instances the pinion nut in the steering rack might not be correctly secured, in which case the driver might hear a knocking sound when turning the steering wheel. The media statement does not mention any possible safety concerns.

How long will it take?

Kia says that the inspection, which is of course free of charge, should take less than an hour, but that also depends on the vehicle's position in the work queue on that specific day.

What if I have more questions?

Kia says that its call centre will be contacting owners by telephone from March 1. You can also find a list of frequently asked questions and a VIN number search on www.kia.co.za, or alternatively, you can contact the Kia call centre directly on 010 596 2000.
