The new Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic hardly has a name befitting a performance flagship. Yet this is the fastest Evoque ever, and by quite a margin.

Until now the most powerful Evoque produced 177kW and 340Nm. Now the Autobiography Dynamic comes to the 'warmed up' SUV party with a 210kW/400Nm version of that same 2-litre direct injection turbopetrol engine. Performance figures will be released at a later stage, we presume.

The beefed-up motor sends its urge through all four wheels via an even more responsive version of Land Rover's nine-speed ZF automatic transmission.

To endow it with the necessary pin-sharp precision, the new performance leader gains an upgraded suspension complete with optimised geometry, firmer spring rates and recalibrated adaptive dampers. Land Rover claims to have achieved this without compromising the ride quality.

Braking performance is boosted by upgraded 350mm front brake discs.

The Autobiography Dynamic also makes a bold statement with 20-inch alloy wheels to go with the new grille design, lower front valance and jewel-like headlights.

The cabin can be decked out in one of six leather colours and features Land Rover's new InControl system that allows vehicle-optimised smartphone apps to be displayed and controlled in their original look and feel from the Evoque's touch-screen.

This feature also makes its debut across the Evoque range.
