Hiroshima, Japan - Mazda calls it Koeru, Japanese for “exceed” or “go beyond”, a fitting name for a concept with which it hopes to raise the bar in the increasingly competitive crossover segment.

And if the real thing is anywhere near as dramatic as this design sketch, it will do so - visually, anyway. The drawing shows the latest interpretation of Mazda’s “Kodo” (Soul of Motion) design language in a long, sleek vehicle intended to embody the power and vitality of a predator combined with a measure of refined dignity.

The concept, which will premiere at the Frankfurt motor show on 15 September Motor, is apparently a runner, since the release that accompanies this sketch states that it incorporates the full spectrum of Mazda’s latest SkyActiv technology, but give no details.

As soon as we hear more, so will you.
