The Renault Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet is the latest recipient of the French carmaker’s GT Line moniker, which includes engine, exterior and interior tweaks and is now available in SA.

Powering the GT is Renault’s latest-generation 1.4 TCe (Turbo Control efficiency) engine making 96kW and 190Nm - which the maker says is more akin to naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre engines.

Linked to a six-speed manual transmission, the Mégane CC GT Line is claimed to hit 100km/h from standstill in 10.7 seconds. Top speed is listed as 200km/h and average consumption as 7.3 litres per 100km.

On the aesthetic front buyers can expect a redesigned bootlid, revised LED tail lights, and a rear diffuser. At the front there’s a new bumper with a reshaped air intake and an RS-style black centre section that supports the number plate. The windscreen frame and cabin surrounds are finished in a dark metal instead of the traditional satin-finish chrome, and exterior mirrors and wheels (17”) are finished in a dark metal too.

As in the standard Mégane CC, the GT gets a large folding glass roof (which, according to Renault, is the largest in the segment), measuring almost one square metre in size. The glass roof acts as a link between the coupé and cabriolet functions - with the top raised it floods the cabin with light, while with the roof stowed it offers the full open-air experience.

Standard equipment in the GT Line includes alloy pedals, a white-faced rev counter with red indicator needle, and GT Line-branded floor mats. Unlike the GT Line hatchback and coupé models, the CC retains the standard seats.

Buyers also get a keyless card for hands-free locking and engine starts, automatic parking brake, automatic dual-zone three-mode climate control, and directional bi-xenon headlamps. A high-end instrument display, as well as a colour-coded cruise control/speed limiter are standard too.

Technology shared with the current Mégane range includes Carminat TomTom integrated navigation with TomTom Live, and a special 3D sound system.

The stylish Renault Mégane CC 1.4 T Dynamique GT Line costs R359 900, and includes a five-year ort 100 000km service plan as well as a five-year or 150 000km warranty. - Drive Times
