South Africa's all-time best selling car is actually a bakkie - the Toyota Hilux. Not only that, locally-built Hiluxes have also put South Africa on the international motorsport map with impressive results in the 2013 Dakar Rally.
Now Toyota SA has released a limited-edition version, the Hilux Dakar Edition, to celebrate that success, its launch timed to coincide with the announcement of the works Toyota Dakar Rally team for 2014.
The Dakar package will be available only from July to September 2013, on Raider grade models in all three body types - Single, Xtra and Double Cab - and features a number of distinctive trim elements.
These include:
A stainless-steel nudge bar with Dakar logo
A stainless-steel rear styling bar with Dakar logo
Stainless-steel side steps with Dakar logo
A rear step bumper with towbar
A black tonneau cover
Smoky grey alloy wheels
Body-colour door handles and side mirror housings
A special Dakar badge on the tailgate.
Interior upgrades include:
Black leather seats and door inserts with red stitching
Black floor mats with red Dakar embroidery and red border
A reversing camera on Xtra Cab and Double Cab models.
