Montreal, Canada - The threat of a protest against BMW Sauber was averted here on Sunday just ahead of the Canadian Formula 1 GP after race organisers gave the German team's cars the all-clear to race.

Rival Honda was among a host of teams preparing to protest against BMW Sauber, after pictures appearing to show the team's rear wings flexing illegally were published on Saturday.

BMW team boss Mario Theissen asked the sport's governing body the International Automobile Federationm, to resolve the situation.

Thiessen said: "(FIA technical delegate) Charlie (Whiting) came over this morning (Sunday) and he inspected the car and rear wing again.

"He confirmed that it conformed with the rules, so there will not be anything. There is nothing to do and it is fine."

The decision by the FIA averts the possibility of Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, 35, who drives for BMW Sauber, facing disqualification from his home race. - AFP
