Johannesubrg - Fifty of the fun seekers and music lovers who attended Major League Gardens were left with a huge headache after their vehicles were impounded.

Many thought their vehicles had been stolen.

But Joburg metro police department (JMPD) spokesman Wayne Minnaar said they were towed away because they were parked illegally.

The all-day festival was held at Innesfree Park in Sandton, and many attendees parked in the road after the limited parking space ran out.

“They were wrongfully parked and obstructing traffic,” said Minnaar, adding that motorists would have to pay R2510 to get their cars back.

“They can go to the JMPD car pound on Village and Loveday streets.”

One of the artists on the line-up, Kwesta, vented his frustration on Twitter about how the show had been organised. “Road closures & the single entrance meant parking my car 1.2km from the VVIP parking & walking to #MajorLeagueGardens!

“Close to 50 cars blocking roads got impounded & towed away so people could leave after the cops ended #MajorLeagueGardens!”

Kwesta also tweeted: “ #MajorLeagueGardens why me though? Everyone else did their thing & the power chose to die on me! With cops shutting us down early you must thank @L_Tido @2freshLES & @akaworldwide for squeezing me in to finish my #MajorLeagueGardens set!”

He, along with many other tweeters, also complained that the event had ended early.

@Terra_elle asked: “I mean what happened to Blackmotion’s performance? Like 15min then the sound cut?? Hai #majorleaguegardens”

The police said they didn’t end the show early and had agreed with organisers that it would begin at 10am and end at 10pm, even though the event poster said it was a noon to midnight event.

Rapper Riky Rick thanked all who attended and promised it would improve in future.

“Thank you to everybody who came out to support us at #majorleaguegardens. This the 4th event… We can only gonna get better and we will.”
