A word of advice to those disgusting police men and women out there that line their pockets by accepting bribes from motorists.

Next time you commit your shameful deed, make sure that the errant motorist that pays you doesn't get arrested.

This past weekend a Gauteng traffic officer found this out the hard way and got himself arrested for soliciting a bribe. The policeman allegedly pocketed a bribe from a motorist during a roadblock aimed at busting drunk drivers in Alexandra.

"The motorist was arrested, and he complained about why he was arrested despite having paid a bribe," said RTMC spokesman Ashref Ismail.

He told police he had handed a R200 note to one traffic officer. Police searched the officer and the R200 note was found on him. He was arrested immediately.

Ismail added: "It remains extremely worrying that the people who are supposed to uphold the rule of law are the ones who tamper with it. We will not hesitate to act, even against one of our own."

The policeman set due to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Monday, the RTMC said.
