Durban - A man has been arrested after he was caught red-handed by police allegedly selling stolen cars.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said on Wednesday the SAPS Hillcrest Task Team had arrested the 41-year-old suspect for house robbery and car theft in Hillcrest on Monday.

Zwane said police were alerted about the incident when the suspect allegedly sold two vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner and a Volkswagen Polo, to a businessman, but refused to hand over the log-books for the vehicles.

“On investigation police discovered that the Fortuner had been taken during the house robbery in Morningside,” said Zwane, “and the Polo had been stolen in Point Road.

“The investigating officers for both cases were informed about the arrest and the recovery. The suspect was charged for possession of suspected stolen property and taken to Hillcrest police station for detention.”

Zwane said the suspect would appear at the Pinetown Magistrates' Court soon to face charges of house robbery and theft of motor vehicles.
