Hot cars, hot girls at Rand Show

Johannesburg - It’s Rand Show time again and as usual there will be a truckload of high-octane entertainment in store for visitors to South Africa’s largest consumer exhibition running at Nasrec from tomorrow until next Sunday.

The SANDF’s highly anticipated capability displays will return to the main arena where guests can expect explosions, helicopters in combat, and anti-rhino-poaching simulations.

Military exhibits will also feature the Rooivalk, MK2 tank, survey boat and much more.

Hall 5 will hold a feast of all things motoring, with a multi-million-rand private collection of classic American V8 cars from the 1950s on display.

There will also be displays of historic racing cars, dragsters, street rods, modified street cars and stunning first-edition Minis and Volkswagens.

On the Petrolheads Stage in the World of Motoring (Hall 5), well-known motoring journalist Stuart Johnston will host various guests, including motoring personality and F1 expert, Hendrik Verwoerd, for talks on Formula One and other motoring topics.

Fans of the popular “Buyer’s Guide” show on Ignition TV can join hosts Adam Ford and Sagie Moodley at 12pm from 3-6 and 11-12 April for a 30-minute Q&A session, live on the Petrolheads Stage in Hall 5.

Xtreme Riding Xhibitions is an action-packed Foot-up Trials riding show featuring multiple national champion Brian Capper. He’ll be attacking a series of impossible obstacles on his bike, with some trick riding and stunts.

The Fueled Fanatics Arena is where the world of street racing meets the world of in-car entertainment. Car sound and performance junkies will battle it out in various competitions, plus there’s motorised trike drifting, BMX and skateboard tricks, and hip-hop dancers.

Get up close to racing action at the SA Pro Super Enduro Series, presented by Enduro World. This extreme offroad motorcycle race on the show’s 4x4 track combines a mixture of motorcycling disciplines – supercross, trials and enduro – making it as exciting for spectators as it is for the riders.

The Rand Show at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec from April 3 to 12, opens daily from 9am to 7pm. Adults pay R120 at the gates or R100 through Computicket. Pensioners over 65 and teens 13-16 pay R50, children 6-12 R20 and under 6s are free. Parking is R20 per car.
