Nagoya, Japan - While dreaming up edgy designs and huge spindle grilles, the creative minds at Lexus have, at some point, also daydreamed about creating a cool hoverboard.
That idea became a reality recently when Lexus teamed up with some boffins in the field of super-conductive technology to create what it describes as “one of the most advanced hoverboards the world has seen.”
The magnetic levitation device achieves frictionless movement, of a kind we might not have though possible, through the use of liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets.
A prototype board is currently being tested in Spain, and it's likely that Toyota will showcase it live some time soon. There are no plans to put the new hoverboard to market though.
While the project would have made sense on cool factor alone, Lexus says it forms part of its Amazing in Motion campaign, which encourages the pursuit of new possibilities in design and technology.
