Wet weather can wreak havoc on the roads, especially if it hasn't rained for some time.

Shortly after IOL Motoring's Cape Town office opened at 6am on Thursday morning, unseasonably heavy rain began to fall, lifting several weeks' worth of rubber, oil and diesel fuel out of the tar and leaving the city's roads treacherously slick, as the driver of this Ferrari 458 Italia discovered to his cost.

A witness said the driver appeared to lose control of the car as it swept into Hospital Bend, skidding across the wet road and into the steel Armco barrier

The driver wasn't injured, but the car was extensively damaged.
