Johannesburg - Imagine a 3.6-litre V6 Jeep Wrangler with more power than a Grand Cherokee SRT8. Well, imagine no more, because local tuner RGMotorsport has tweaked its Vortech supercharger kit for the Wrangler to deliver a tyre-shredding 365kW and 551Nm.
That's close to double the standard rating of 209kW and 347Nm but, more importantly, the supercharged Wrangler churns out more torque at 2000rpm than the as-issued engine has at peak, making more driveable at low engine speeds over rough terrain.
Tuner Steven Green explained: "We took a conservative approach when we first supercharged the Jeep, but now that we have access to a four-wheel-drive dynamometer - and positive feedback from customers - we have a lot more confidence in the efficiency of the Vortech supercharger and our water-to-air intercooler to keep intake temperature within safe limits."
Upping the ante
Confidence enough, in fact, to up the ante on the Unichip Q control unit, which writes a three-dimensional 'map' all the way from idle to the rev-limiter, by an additional 49kW and 34Nm - without moving the rev-limiter.
Green reckons the upgraded Vortech Wrangler will launch to 100km/h in about eight seconds at Highveld altitude and cover a quarter-mile in the mid 15-second bracket.
A Vortech supercharger installation for your Wrangler will cost you R133 000, and comes with a six-month or 20 000km warranty.
