Cape Town - The matriculant who “stole” a school bus to get himself and fellow learners to exams on time has been offered driving lessons.

Hawston Secondary School learner Le-Aan Adonis, 20, says he has been swamped by offers of help after his story was first published in the Daily Voice.

Le-Aan shot to fame when he decided to drive the school bus from Kleinmond to Hawston last Monday when their driver failed to show up.

His story has been published in various newspapers and he even had a few minutes of fame on national television.

Former Western Cape top cop Advocate Lennit Max has also offered to represent Le-Aan at the school’s disciplinary hearing and handle all other legal matters.

Now Le-Aan, who drives a bus like a pro even though he doesn’t have a licence, is on the road to getting his Code 14 learner’s licence after Sydney Armoed, owner of Sydney’s Driving School in Caledon, offered to assist him free of charge.

Armoed says he read about Le-Aan’s escapades and decided to contact palie Idy Adams to find out more about the incident.

“The story touched me because this learner could have decided not to put his future on the line by driving the bus,” he says.

“Although I don’t condone what he did, I admire him for taking the risk to ensure that he and the other learners were on time for their exam.”

CHARACTER

Armoed says this shows the young man’s character.

Le-Aan will be writing his learner’s licence test in December.

Le-Aan’s disciplinary hearing will be heard on Friday while he still has to pay a R5000 fine for driving without a licence.

But the grateful young man says he is positive that everything will work out.

Asked if he regrets his decision to take the wheel, he laughs and says: “If I wasn’t caught, I wouldn’t have all these opportunities, so everything worked out for the best.”
