Johannesburg - Subaru South Africa has expanded its Takata airbag recall to include a wider array of models sold between 2004 and 2014.

Subaru initially recalled the 2004 - 2007 Subaru Impreza models (including WRX), but the new recall adds Forester, Legacy, Outback and Tribeca models, and additional Impreza model years.

This is the full list of affected cars:

2004 - 2011 Subaru WRX

2004 - 2011 Subaru Impreza

2009 - 2012 Subaru Forester

2005 - 2014 Subaru Legacy

2005 - 2014 Subaru Outback

2005 - 2011 Subaru Tribeca

Subarus SA says this latest recall, which is one of many airbag recalls involving Takata airbags across numerous brands, only relates to the passenger front airbags (not the driver’s airbag as in many other Takata recalls).

Technical Manager Deon Van Heerden has urged customers to start the process of getting their vehicles seen to.

Owners can visit a special recall page on Subaru SA’s website and insert their VIN numbers to check if their vehicle is affected.

Following that, the vehicle owner will be redirected to a form that gets the booking process started.

Takata airbags have been linked to deaths and injuries abroad, but so far no incidents have been reported in South Africa.
