Durban - So you’re enjoying the new season of Top Gear and wondering if the zany trio will be returning to South Africa this year?

Well, we have some good news: the Top Gear Festival will be making a comeback, with the venue once again the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, on 21 and 22 June.

The festival will again see show presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond and The Stig entertaining crowds with their colourful antics, while the Top Gear stunt driving team will inspire and enthral spectators.

Organisers have confirmed that the Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park and Street Circuit stages will be used, and that the stadium show will feature a combination of the anarchic stunts and challenges synonymous with the popular television show.

The Street Circuit will play host to tons of motoring festivities.

These will include a 90-minute track show, grudge matches, races, and even a daredevil record attempt.

A new element this year is Motoring in Motion, which offers visitors the opportunity to test-drive cars and enjoy interactive live demos in manufacturers’ theatres - while the Stunt School and drifting rides should get heart rates pumping.

There will also be a large motoring exhibition, which besides some precious metal will include the latest gadgets, luxury goods, car accessories and motoring technology.

Tickets are already on sale and range from R260 for a basic ticket to R1995 for a SuperSport Elite Village ticket.

But here’s some good news: we’ve negotiated a special offer for loyal Motoring readers. Use the promotion code “GEARUPMOT” when booking your tickets online and you’ll score a 20 percent discount on Standard (R499), Superior (R995) and SuperSport Elite (R1995) tickets, bringing the prices down to R399, R796 and R1596 respectively.

Corporate hospitality packages are available on the website, too, as are a range of travel packages for out-of-towners.

The organisers are expecting a sell-out. -Mercury Motoring
