The Hennessey Venom GT has romped from zero to 300km/h to achieve an official Guinness world record.
The American supercar managed a time of just 13.63 seconds, which is less time than it takes many entry-level cars to get to 100km/h.
The recorded time is an average of two runs made in opposite directions on a runway at Ellington Airport, near Houston, Texas.
The figures were validated by a VBox 3i GPS-based data logging system and VBox officials were on hand to certify the numbers as required by Guinness rules.
During the runs, the Venom GT reached a speed of 370km/h in just 19.96 seconds and on the way there it hit 96km/h in 3.05 seconds and 160km/h in 5.88 secs.
“I have never ridden in anything this fast. The acceleration is absolutely amazing,” Guinness adjudicator Philip Robertson exclaimed after he was given a ride in the vehicle, after the record run of course.
928KW OF VENOM
The Venom GT is shoved along by a 7-litre twin-turbo V8 motor that pushes 928kW and 1564Nm of torque. That would be plenty power in a bus, but with a kerb weight of just 1244kg, the lightweight GT weighs no more than an average small hatchback.
But this supercar is going to be as rare as an honest politician, with just 29 units slated for production at a retail price of $1.2-million (R10.6-million).
