Durban - The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) has issued a travel alert, warning that sleet, and possibly even light snow, are expected along parts of the N3 highway from Wednesday night.

According to weather reports, sleet and snowfall is possible in the areas around Harrismith, Van Reenen’s Pass, Ladysmith and the KZN Midlands.

“With the increased possibility of sleet and snow, roads and traffic may be affected causing back-ups and delays. It is advisable that travelers either delay their journeys or be prepared for demanding travel conditions,” said N3TC commercial manager Con Roux.

“We will make every attempt to ensure general safety along the N3 Toll Route and may, in the interest of safety, have to close parts of the N3 Toll Route should road conditions become too dangerous. Transport and logistics operators, especially those with livestock and perishable loads, should be aware that road closures may occur.”

Weather and traffic conditions will be communicated via the

Twitter feed, just don’t look at it while driving!

Motorists are urged to take precautions, such as packing extra water, food and blankets in case they are caught in a lengthy closure.

If you do end up driving through snow, it’s important to slow down and avoid any harsh accelerating, braking or steering. If your car does lose grip, take your foot off the accelerator pedal and point the front wheels where you want to go.
